Plot Privacy Policy
Effective date: 12 September 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how Plot (“the App”) handles your data.
1) What the app stores
- Trip content you create: trips, plans, notes, places, and related metadata.
- Optional location data: only if you grant “While Using the App” permission, and only to show your position on the map or attach a location to a plan/note.
2) Where your data lives
- iCloud (Apple CloudKit): Your content is stored in your personal iCloud account under the container iCloud.com.tdwcks.plot. The developer does not have access to your iCloud data.
- On‑device storage: A local database/cache exists to make the app work offline and sync when available.
3) How data is used
- To provide core features: create, view, edit, and sync trips/notes/plans; display maps; and optionally receive CloudKit push updates.
- To share: If you share a trip, invited participants can view the shared content. You control sharing and can stop sharing at any time.
4) What the app does NOT do
- No ads, no third‑party analytics SDKs, no sale of data.
- No tracking across apps or websites; the app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA).
5) Third‑party services
- Apple iCloud/CloudKit: sync, sharing, and push notifications.
- Apple Maps / MapKit: maps and geocoding.
- Unsplash (images/previews in some views): requests are sent to Unsplash’s API when needed. No personal identifiers are sent by the app.
6) Permissions
- Location (“While Using”): to show your current position on the map and to attach locations to items. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings.
- Notifications: optional, for CloudKit updates to shared content.
7) Security
- Data in transit uses Apple’s standard encryption. iCloud protects your data at rest per Apple’s security model.
- Keep your device and Apple ID secure; iCloud access is tied to your Apple account.
8) Your choices and data control
- Edit or delete any trip, plan, or note in the app.
- Stop sharing a trip at any time to revoke access for others.
- Remove local data by deleting the app.
- Remove iCloud data via iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Apps Using iCloud > Plot, or by disabling iCloud for the app.
9) Children’s privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided data, please contact us and we will help you remove it.
10) Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We’ll post updates in the app or on the app’s website, and update the “Effective date” above.
